Neurodivergent-Affirming Therapy in Massachusetts
Diverge Counseling provides specialized online therapy for adults and teens in Massachusetts who are autistic, ADHD, and or experience OCD and anxiety. All sessions are conducted via telehealth. I'm based in Northampton in Western Massachusetts, and I work with clients across the Pioneer Valley and throughout the state — wherever you are in Massachusetts, affirming, evidence-based care is within reach.

For me, practicing from a neurodiversity-affirming lens means I respect your identities, autonomy, and goals. I recognize that the ways you are currently coping, make perfect sense and have been a piece of what has let you survive 100% of your hardest days so far. Clients I have worked with have expressed feeling more in line with themselves, taking better care of their specific communication, social, and sensory needs and feeling more able to self-advocate. Stimming and other sensory regulation/accommodation is welcome in therapy sessions!

Yes, I accept Aetna and Optum insurance. These insurance plans are inclusive of many smaller plans. To see if working with me will be covered by your insurance, check out my fee page for a full list of these smaller plans. If we schedule a consultation and you are interested in working with me, I will run your insurance through a program that checks if I am covered by your plan, however, the best way to ensure therapy with me is covered is to call the member services number on the back of your card and ask if therapy with Aiden Reis is covered under your behavioral health benefits.

Yes! I offer online therapy to clients all over MA including western, eastern, and central mass. I am licensed in Massachusetts so as long as you are located in Massachusetts during the session, we can work together. I have worked with clients who live in VT, CT, or NH but are able to drive over the Massachusetts border to do virtual therapy from their car.

In our first session together, I will ask you about your strengths and goals for therapy. We go over the paperwork that you will see ahead of the session to see if you have any questions about my policies. The first session is a get to know you session and I will come prepared to ask specific questions to lay the groundwork for the work we will be doing together.

Yes, I enjoy working with teens as well as adults of all ages. I have experience working with adults in many life stages; many of my clients start working with me while in college or graduate school, after divorce, or as they start to think about what they want retirement to look like. I only work with teens who consent to therapy, it is never forced. I have worked with teenagers for many years and angst does not scare me away; I find that my art therapy background helps me connect with teens in creative ways.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
In working with generalized anxiety, the worries tend to respond well to thinking about them in new ways; we can also strategize together ways to support your resilience in managing your concerns. OCD does not respond well to talk therapy. There is no amount of arguing with the thoughts or attempting to change the thoughts that will be helpful. OCD responds well to gently facing the fear and specific strategies that help you disengage from mental and physical compulsions. I use ACT for both OCD and generalized anxiety, and I use ACT, ERP, and or I-CBT for OCD.

Absolutely! Many of my clients have been either diagnosed or started identifying themselves as autistic later in life. Our understanding of autism has evolved greatly over the last decade and unfortunately many people who were autistic all along have been missed. With late identification can come grief, fear, anger, as well as hope for new ways to understand, support, and express yourself. I am happy to support you in this process.

Collaborative, honest, and straightforward. We're here to guide the process, bring ideas to the table, and keep things moving.

Yes! LGBTQ-affirming practice is at the core of Diverge Counseling. As a trans and queer person myself it is important to me that your identity is respected and understood. I aim to be kink and sex-positive, and I am very familiar with nonmonogamy and polyamory. This also means any OCD exposures we collaborate on are justice-oriented around respecting your sexuality, gender, and other identities. You will not have to explain basic LGBTQ concepts to me, we can dive right into the work you want to do.
Meet Aiden Reis
I'm Aiden Reis, LMHC, ATR — a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Registered Art Therapist, and fellow autistic and trans person. I created Diverge Counseling because I know what it's like to search for a therapist who understands your experience from the inside.
My approach draws on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), and neurodivergent-affirming practice — combined with a genuine commitment to LGBTQ-affirming and gender-affirming care. Therapy here is honest, practical, and built around you — not a one-size-fits-all model that wasn't designed with your brain in mind.
If you're somewhere in Massachusetts and looking for a therapist who gets it, I'd be glad to connect.
